Resuming goods transportation by trains and refunding payments for seat reservations for those who had made during the pandemic situation will come to effect from January 7, the Sri Lanka Railways Station Masters' Union (SLRSMU) said.
They said the goods train services were suspended for several months due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Accordingly, the goods handling service will only be provided to the areas where the services are currently operated, the Union said.
"Goods containing perishable items, emergency and express parcels will not be accepted for handling.
However, goods except the above category will be accepted for transportation," the SLRSMU said.
Many seats have been reserved prior to the cancellation of train services due to COVID-19 pandemic.
As the result, those reservations too have been nullified. the SLRSMU said.
Therefore, arrangements are being made to refund for those seat reservations from January 7 onwards, the SLRSMU added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
