A resolution moved by the Walallawita Pradeshiya Sabha to abolish provincial councils was passed by a majority of votes today.
The motion was moved by UPFA Council Member Nalaka Tharanga Samarawikrama during the monthly meeting held at the PS assembly hall presided by the Walallawita Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Udeni Athukorala.
UNP PS member Rohitha Kumara Athukorala seconded the resolution.
After the resolution was taken for debate, the Chairman put the resolution to the vote and 21 PS members voted in favour of the resolution and UPFA Council Member Samitha Alahapperuma refrained from voting. (Bandu Thambavita)

It is useless in a dictatorship to have provincial councils.

Yes it is a good suggestion. But some sort of devolution is required only to the north but not to the east and rest of the country.

Yes get rid of useless hangers on and transfer administration to District Secretaries. Government within a government for provinces is destructive and a waste of money. It only encourages sleeze and corruption.
