Reconstruction of tanks, especially in the Anuradhapura, Puttalam and Kurunegala districts should get off the ground before the end of April, Tanks, Reservoirs and Irrigation Development State Minister Anuradha Jayaratne said.
While holding a special discussion at the Ministry recently with the National Machinery Institute, a subsidiary of public officers and government agencies, State Development and Construction Corporation, National Machinery Institute and Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau, the State Minister said the above four institutions together should provide their notable support to the expeditious reconstruction of tanks.
He said 100 tanks would be rehabilitated by one institution and it will commence before the end of April.
Minister Jayaratne also requested that this programme should be initiated under the rules and regulations of their respective institutions.
The State Minister requested each institution to provide a list of tanks that could be repaired as soon as possible and stated that the reconstruction work of the tanks in Anuradhapura, Puttalam and Kurunegala should begin immediately before the end of April. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
