The recent COVID-19 victims including the three persons who died on Tuesday, were suffering from chronic diseases, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said.
He told media that the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the county has posed a higher danger on senior citizens with chronic diseases.
“Therefore, it is much important for the senior citizens to be extra cautious, take precautionary measures and seek immediate medical attention if they feel unfit and unwell.
Meanwhile, he said if people stick to basic health guidelines, the combat against the COVID-19 could easily be won.
He also reiterated that with the emergence of the COVID-19 cluster at Peliyagoda Fish Market, people need not fear eating fish. However, he pointed out that it is important to always wash the hands with soap for at least 20 seconds after shopping, handling food packages, or before preparing or consuming food.(Sheain Fernandopulle)

You are giving excuses for all the patients who have died. Even if they do have any ither diseases they would have easily lived for 5 to 10 years. Accept that Covid killed them don't disrespect the fallen people.

It's not surprising that the poor and the middle class have chronic diseases and more like malnutrition, lack of water for the day to day activities, crowed living due to poverty, over crowded hospital system and most of all beggars income or no income. Except for a hand full like the extravagant rich.

Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera has done cheap politics and not close down the Gampaha district and the island timely. He does not recommend more and more testing randomly. Still not introduce other testing methods. Finally, this guy is a big liar and says there is no community spread yet.

There are no approved treatments for COVID. Government is making hospitals temporary prisons for COVID patients by admitting all COVID patients whether they need treatment or not. Let them recover at home. Its too late to control the spread with quarantines and curfews.
