UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayake who was suspended from the party today said he would function as an independent MP in Parliament following the decision of the party.
Mr. Ramanayake told Daily Mirror that he is happy that UNP had released him from party duties.
“I am happy that UNP had released me from my duties pertaining to the party, as I can deal with robbers without fear. I was once asked not to criticize any party member. Therefore I secretly handed over a file which contained frauds committed by our own party members to the Bribery Commission,” Mr. Ramanayake said.
“I will continue my struggle against corruption,” he said.
Mr. Ramanayake said he will contest the next general election independently and would quit politics if he could not win a seat in Parliament.
“I will function as an independent MP from now on. But will not joint any other political party,” he added.(Yohan Perera)
