President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa today inaugurated the first phase of the Park & Ride bus service at the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Center in Kottawa.
The aim of the project is to reduce the number of vehicles traveling to Colombo and suburbs by providing a comfortable, safe public transport bus service for motorists and motorcyclists.
Only luxury buses are to be used to carry passengers according to the number of seats.
The fare is double the normal bus fare. The service includes a limited number of stops, short-haul destinations, polite, friendly and attractive transportation.
Passengers can park their vehicles in the multi-center park free of charge. Parking space is expected to be expanded to take into account the progress of the program.
Buses will run every 15 minutes from 06.00 am to 08.00 am and from 04.00 pm to 09.00 pm while buses will run every 25 minutes between 08.00 am and 04.00 pm.
A total of 64 trips are schedule to run daily.

A bus service launched by a President of a county. A world record, may be not. Other underdeveloped countries will be doing the same. Sad!

Why not have a flat fare, peak hour, around the city bus/train service. which may reduce city traffic drastically.
