President Maithripala Sirisena and State Minister of Defence, Ruwan Wijayawardene together with the Commanders of the three armed forces and the Police Chief were conferred military honours yesterday at the opening ceremony of the Combined Defence Headquarters Complex at Akuregoda in Sri Jayawardenepura.
At the main ceremony held at the auditorium of the Sri Lanka Army’s new luxury headquarters, Army commander Lt. General Shavendra Silva presented President Sirisena with the ‘Sevabhimani Medal’. The President then presented the Sevabhimani Medal to the minister.
The President pinned the medal to Defense Secretary, General (retired) Shantha Kottegoda,the Army Commander, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sumangala Dias, acting IGP C.D..Wickremeratne and other officers. Pix by Damith Wickramasinghe
