Police baton-charged a group of people who were protesting at the Puttalam town a short while ago over the Aruwakkalu Hygienic Solid Waste Disposal Project (AHSWDP).
The people were protesting against the project saying that a drain has been excavated to release waste to the lagoon.
The Megapolis and the Western Development Ministry introduced the ‘Metro Colombo Solid Waste Management Project’ (MCSWMP) through which it intends to carry out ‘Sanitary Land Fills’ with Korean technology as a safe and sustainable solution to the solid waste disposal to the entire country. state violence will not be tolerated for long. even the army will be agitated, like in Thailand or Philippines, for the impotency of this government with an impotent president and an impotent PM.

These people have an inherent right to protest against this stupid and high-handed move to dump garbage from Colombo at Aruwakkalu, by force, literally using the physical might of the government. Why does the president shy away rather than meeting these people?

Our people don't have the willingness to minimize the garbage they dispose. I see everyday people are taking home bags and bags of polythene. and then they dont want to dump them in a landfill either. Sad to say but our people are more of a problem than our politicians
