JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today people should come forward to defeat the Government’s moves to destroy forest cover which he called “Bulldozer Concept” of the government.
Participating in a protest march organised by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) against the environmental destruction, he said people , irrespective of party politics, racial or other differences, should come forward against the environmental destruction taking place all over the country.
He alleged that the government had allowed Companies and businessmen who are partial to the government to clear acres of forest cover such as in Pollebedda, Dimbulagala, Sinharaja and in Muthurajawela wetlands.
Mr. Dissanayake said they would rally round people in places where environmental destruction is taking place and pointed out that today’s protest march was organised to mark the beginning of the struggle.
The protest march which commenced from the Technical Junction marched towards the Fort Railway Station where they held a protest rally. (Ajith Siriwardana)

To be honest I have never seen a JVP leader planting at-least a tree. Actions are much much better than empty words comrade.

Rather than planting trees better to protect forests before planting saplings rather than destroying what exist.
