The Attorney General has informed the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) appointed to probe into the alleged political victimization of public servants that the Commission has no statutory or legal authority to order the AG to refrain from performing his statutory functions.
The PCoI has earlier advised the AG to suspend the examination of the 11 youth abduction case involving former Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda and former Navy Spokesman D.K.P. Dassanayake.
The AG’s Coordinating Officer State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said the AG has informed the Commission last Friday in writing that the Commission of Inquiry has no statutory or legal authority to order the AG to refrain from performing his statutory functions in the 11 youth abduction case.

I would entirely agree that PCOI has NO authority over AG! One would expect them to know this! MM
