The legal officer of the Road Development Authority (RDA) Jeewananda Waidyadasa has been strictly warned by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry for giving false evidence in connection with a complaint on the recruitment of 45 public relation officers and 102 project advisers under the direction of the then Higher Education and Highways Minister Lakshman Kiriella.
Chairman of the Committee Upali Abeyratne warned that giving false evidence was an offence which could be charged by the High Court.
The witness testified before the commission that a Cabinet approval was not needed for those appointments.
The State Council said that according to the reports of the COPE and Director Board, Cabinet approval was needed for those appointments. (Thilini De Silva)
