The 'March 12 Movement' led by the Peoples Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) has decided to bring all the potential candidates on one stage and allow people to question them ahead of the upcoming presidential election, PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi said.
He said the event which would be a turning point in the history of politics in Sri Lanka, is scheduled to be held in the first week of October at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium with the participation of trade union activists, artistes and several other distinguished guests. It would be a vital parameter to choose the ideal character to lead the country.
“We have gathered questions from the people to be placed before the candidates on stage before September 20. This would provide an opportunity to draw the attention of the candidates to matters that concern the people,” Mr. Hettiarachchi said.
He said people could email their concerns to rohanapaffrel@email.com or they can send it to No.16, Byrde Place, Pamankada Rd, Kirulapana.
“We hope this would become an intellectual discussion and a great opportunity for people to decide whom they should elect as the president of the country.”
Mr. Hettiarachchi also said they were hoping to get the signatures of candidates to ensure the election would be held in a free and a fair manner. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
