Over 59,000 vaccinated: No adverse effects reported: Dr. Herath

A total number of 59,154 individuals, including frontline health workers have been vaccinated by yesterday evening, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said.

He said 21,309 people have been vaccinated yesterday alone.

Dr. Herath said no severe adverse effects have been reported so far, except for common problems such as fever, muscle pains and discomfort which might occur after any immunization.

He said immunization drive is taking place at all main hospitals covering all districts right now, and added that there was no reason to hesitate and requested everyone to get vaccinated.

“The vaccine is provided only to frontline health workers and security personnel at this stage. Steps will be taken to provide the vaccine to the general public very soon,” he said. (Ajith Siriwardana)

Sri Lanka Medial Fraternity lack knowledge and professionalism. The vaccine should have been given to the vulnerable not the police and the military ( We are not Myanmar still). In Sri Lanka the virus in rampant in low income groups groups living in high rise apartments. They should have been vaccinated after the front line workers. In Sri Lanka we are following what the WHO says as they lack knowledge and professionalism. Just watch CNN or BBC and they can learn more.

Correction. In the UK and the USA, vaccine is first given to frontline workers first. Even now residents in care homes are only (after a month) beginning to receive the vaccine. In Sri Lanka where there is a dearth of vaccines, it has to be rationed. The countries you mentioned, since they have a superior buying power hog more vaccines than they really need at the expense of poorer countries. So come out of the well and wait your turn.

They are young and healthy. And when they stop chasing innocent people and do the duties they are paid for( chasing criminals) they are not vulnerable. Also not by attending a useless parade. Give the vaccins to the healthcareworkers.

They should not get involved in the first place. Covid 19 victims are not criminals. Healthcareworkers should take care of them and therefor get the vaccins

Vaccines don’t seems to work at all but a great confidence boost. Most dangerous disease still in Sri Lanka is “Dengue” No vaccine yet for dengue. The day they can find a vaccine for common cold corona will get a vaccine.
