A fish vendor has been tested positive with COVID-19 from 80 random Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) conducted in the Western Province yesterday, Police said.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that in addition to the tests being conducted on those leaving the Western Province, RATs were also carried out on Wednesday at 10 other locations in the Western Province, especially on the vendors and support hands at fish stalls.
"The health authorities, along with police, are intending to conduct this type of random RATs among various working groups, especially the passengers of public transportation crew," he said.
Moreover, the random tests would be conducted at fish markets or vegetable markets and especially the places where the public gather until January 5, 2021, the police spokesman said.
"If you are told to undergo the RAT, don't hesitate or refuse. We solicit your fullest support and cooperation in order to identify the COVID-19 positive patients and their contacts," he appealed to the public. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

According to Prof Malavige who took part in the Sri Lanka College of Community Physicians webinat on 30th Dec, RAT can show false positive tests if not read in the prescribed time. Even a truly negative one will show a positive band if read much later. This could happen when a large number of RATs are carried out and left to be read later.
