No serious incidents of disturbing the peace were reported during the post-election period so far while a peaceful situation prevails throughout the country, Police Spokesman SSP Ruwan Gunasekera said.
He said all police mobile services and anti-riot teams which were deployed in view of the presidential election would continue to operate in the coming days as well.
Accordingly, 6,086 police officers have been assigned to 3,043 police mobile services countrywide. A total of another 6,086 more Civil Defence Force (CDF) personnel will also be assigned to mobile services, the Spokesman said.
"One of the two police officers assigned at polling centres was recalled to the respective police stations along with the bringing of ballot boxes to counting centres. They were assigned for the duties at the road barriers," he said.
A total of 1,688 police officers and 190 CDF officers had been assigned at all police barriers. Meanwhile, 137 permanent road barriers and 190 road barriers had been formed due to the presidential election around the country.
"Accordingly, national security has been ensured. Special Task Force and police officers were assigned at counting centres by yesterday and they will continue with their services," the spokesman added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
