No critical damage has been caused to respective areas due to Burevi cyclone, which entered Eastern Coast last night, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.

DMC Deputy Director Pradeep Kodippili told the media that showery condition was still prevailing in some areas in the Eastern and Northern Provinces.

“We expected more damages after hitting of the cyclone, but fortunately we had minimum damages that were not harmful to people and properties”, Kodippii said.

However, there is still rainfall above 100mm at certain areas of the Eastern Province, he said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

so the MET department as usual got all predictions wrong again? But we are happy that no harm to people or property

Mohamed Ghouse Thursday, 03 December 2020 12:11 PM

The mountain in labour produced a mouse. The joke usually mentioned is when the local met dept predicts a weather report we have to interpret it according to the opposite. Even jokes become reality

    Sunil Thursday, 03 December 2020 01:29 PM

We cannot say that their predictions were wrong. No one can predict very accurately what the actual harm would be.

Not as expected by some media (specially some electronic media)

    Aweej Thursday, 03 December 2020 12:28 PM

    agreed ! media exaggerated this

The media went to town! Blew up the entire Cyclone story out of proportion. Glad nothing happened to people's properties and or lives.
