North Central Province Governor Sarath Ekanayake said yesterday the government should obtain the support of Provincial Councils when implementing the land distribution programme.

He said this at a ceremony held to distribute lands in Anuradhapura yesterday.

“It is only proper for the central government to work with the provincial councils when devolving land powers to PCs,” Mr Ekanayake said.

He said final approval for the distribution of lands had to be given by the President and this too should be kept in mind. (Yohan Perera and Athula Bandara)
