Three suspects were arrested by the STF officers this morning for allegedly involved in the killing of two underworld gang members yesterday, police said.
A gangster known as “Anamalu Ranga” and another were hacked to death during a clash which erupted near the Madampitiya Cemetery in Grandpass yesterday afternoon.
The three suspects who were arrested over the killing were handed over to the Mattakkuliya Police.
They were identified as Mohammed Ramlan (19), Sudesh Asanka (18) and Kolitha de Silva (34), who are residents of the Mattakkuliya area.
A three-wheeler which was allegedly used by the suspects to arrive at the location was also taken under the police custody. The three-wheeler was found abandoned near the cemetery.
Police investigations revealed that the three-wheeler belonged to a person named W.A Niroshani, who is the wife of leading underworld figure 'Kudu Rohan'. Both are currently in prison.
Police identified Kolitha de Silva alias 'Aja' as the younger brother of Kudu Rohan.
Police also found two swords from the house of Kudu Rohan's wife in Mattakkuliya.
