A 38-year-old Japanese man was arrested by the Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday for attempting to leave the country with foreign currency amounting to Rs 5 million.
Additional Director General of Customs Sunil Jayaratne said the suspect who works in a development project in Sri Lanka, had declared only 1,000 US dollars on his departure.
The officers recovered 5 million Japanese Yen (Rs. 81,30,500) from the suspect’s luggage. (T.K.G. Kapila)
