The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today urged the Speaker to refer the allegation of misuse of funds of the Central Cultural Fund (CCF) to the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and Committee on Public Accounts (COPA).
JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake told parliament that it was reported in media that Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe had appointed a committee on the allegation of misuse of Rs.1.2 billion from the CCF and requested the government to reveal the members of the committee.
MP Ratnayake said Prime Minister's committees could not be trusted as he appoints committees to bite time. Minister Kiriella said it was only reported in the media and added such allegations had not been mentioned in the Attorney General's, COPE or COPA's reports.
"There has not been any misuse of funds. Therefore, it is wrong to take up this matter in parliament," he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
