Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said yesterday that if President Maithripala Sirisena was keen to make a special statement before his term expires he should do so after 6.00 pm on November 16.
He told Daily Mirror that this was conveyed to the President during a meeting held with him.
“We requested the President to make his statement on November 16 after 6 pm because we believe that it would be the ideal time for him to do so after polling ends,” Mr Deshapriya said.
He said they had made several other requests to the President like drafting a specific code of ethics for the media. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
