Several areas in the country would receive heavy rainfalls of over 100 mm during this evening or night, the Department of Meteorology said.
While issuing a weather forecast for today, the Department said, heavy deluge could be expected at some places in Northern, Eastern, North-central and Central provinces and Badulla district.
Even showers or thundershowers could occur at several places over most parts of the island, they said.
Meanwhile, heavy falls above 75 mm are forecast for tomorrow at some places in Eastern and Uva provinces and Polonnaruwa and Mullaithivu districts.
Light showers could be expected in Western and Southern coastal areas in the morning.
Misty conditions could also be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces during the morning.
The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to safeguard themselves from damages caused by gusty winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
