A special Cabinet Memorandum has been passed to expedite the survey of tanks that have not been surveyed.
This survey will be conducted with the help of 50 university students from April, that includes Tanks, Reservoirs and Irrigation Development, State Minister Anuradha Jayaratne said.
He said the graduates who had done their graduation studies at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and Sabaragamuwa University, will be assigned through the Survey Department.
He said the work on 836 tanks commenced last January.
"We do all these tank projects under a formal programme. The work will start after setting criteria for each tank. Also, we are carrying out the reconstruction work of these tanks with the support of all the institutions around our Ministry," the Minister said.
We also have a great responsibility towards the people of the Kurunegala District who have been a great strength to our Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, he said.
All the reconstruction work of the proposed tanks will commence at the end of this year under the 'irrigation prosperity' programme. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
