The government has turned down a request by some politically appointed diplomats to grant them extra time to return to the country, a source said.
The government has recalled all Sri Lankan heads of missions politically appointed by the previous administration. They are supposed to return before December 31, 2019, However, a government source said some of them have sought a few more months extension to come back, but the request was declined.
Once they return, the government is trying to select a fresh batch of diplomats to be posted to different countries.
The government has recalled more than 20 such political appointees. (Kelum Bandara)
