The government is scheduled to discuss the decision taken by the UN Peacekeeping Department to ban the deployment of non-essential Sri Lankan Army troops in UN peacekeeping missions.

Issuing a statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Sri Lankan delegation attending the 74th General Assembly Session is scheduled to discuss this matter with the Under-Secretary-General of the UN Department of Peace Operations.

“Following the statement of the Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General yesterday that the UN Department of Peace Operations has decided to repatriate a Sri Lankan Army unit and individual officers currently serving with UN Peacekeeping due to concerns on the appointment of Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva as the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, the Government of Sri Lanka is in discussion on this issue with the UN Secretary,” the statement said.

The fools who rule this country are always blind towards the damage they cause to reputation of this country. With all due respect, Shavendra was in a line of responsibility for the criminal acts committed by the SLA during the last stages of war where he may not be directly involved but failed to stop it. The truth will always remain truth even if it is falsified a million times.

What is the truth? What are the proofs?

Correctly. The leaders of this country must subordinate their unfounded national pride to the interests of the country and its people. War criminals must bee in jail and not in influential posts.

The elections are round the corner. Savendra will have the opportunity to now tell the story officially.

What a mess the president has done to save himself. Certainly there are others in the Amy who could have taken the post. Send him as an ambassador or as a high commissioner elsewhere.Out of sight is out of mind.
