The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa will launch his election campaign from Anuradhapura today, his spokesman MP Dullas Alahapperuma said yesterday.
His maiden political rally will be held at the Salgado Grounds in Anuradhapura at 2 pm.
SLPP Leader and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, party leaders of the Opposition, its MPs, people's representatives of the SLPP, its members and others would take part in the rally.
The MP said several SLFP representatives would join Mr. Rajapaksa on the stage.
He said they would hold 26 district level rallies countrywide targeting the presidential election.
“We will go to the North and East as well. Apart from district level meetings, 138 electorate level rallies would also be held,” the MP said.
He said Mr. Rajapaksa has already addressed 28 meetings of professionals and civil society activists including conventions of engineers, teachers, business people, Samurdhi activists and doctors.
“The first phase of our campaign began last month and the second phase last week,” he said. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
