Since armed forces, police and the Civil Defence Force personnel have been deployed for the safety of school children, there is no need of parents to be called to schools to provide security, the Education Ministry said today.

It said some schools had worked in an embarrassing manner by calling parents to provide security. The Ministry said it had received complaints claiming that expectant mothers had also been standing in front of school gates.

Another set of complaints had been received for forcing children and parents to buy transparent school bags and to prevent bringing ordinary bags, inconveniencing them.

After considering the issues, the Ministry had announced that there would be no requirement of parents to provide security for schools’ hereafter.

The Education Ministry also expressed its gratitude to all parents who gave their support for the safety of the schools. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
