Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said the country should be geared up for a presidential election instead of wasting public money for a non-binding referendum.
Addressing a religious function in Anuradhapura, he said only the Presidential Elections and the Provincial Council Elections were due at this hour.
He said nominations should be called for the Presidential Elections after October 8, 2019.
“We will never allow anyone to postpone the Presidential Elections,” he said.
Commenting on the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) that probes the Easter Sunday attack, he said it was a body appointed in consultation with members from both sides of the House.
