Fours officials attached to the Railways Department had been interdicted following the incident where the Kalutara bound train from Maradana almost collided with the Chilaw bound train near the Kovil between Maradana and Colombo – Fort this morning, General Manager of Railways (GMR) Dilantha Fernando said.
Accordingly, the driver, his assistant, the head guard and the under guard, who worked on the Kalutara South -bound train were interdicted for ignoring colour signals and proceeding.
“The incident is being investigated by a panel appointed by the Railways Department,” he said.
The Railway Control Room said trains on the Main Line were disrupted and delayed following the incident.
A Kalutara-bound train (No. 741) had almost collided head-on with another train (No. 412) which had set off to reach Chilaw from Colombo Fort.
However, no casualties were reported from the incident. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
