The fire that had broken out in the 'Ella Rock' hill reserve belonging to the Rawana Ella Forest Reserve, had been completely extinguished by the Sri Lanka Army and Air Force personnel this evening, Ella Divisional Secretary Ms. K.A.J. Priyangika said.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, she said that the fire which had broken out yesterday (22) night, had spread into the Rawana Ella Forest Reserve.

While saying that the cause for the fire had not yet been identified, she indicated that the fire had occurred due to human activities.

“No harm has been caused to person or property due to the fire,” she said.

However, she said the risk of rocks falling onto the Ella - Wellawaya Main Road from the reserve prevails and as such, police personnel would be on alert to guide the motorists.

The police have cautioned vehicle drivers to be careful while using this road.  (Sheain Fernandopulle)
