Ex-employee alleges SL women ’harassed’ at US Embassy

A former employee of the US Embassy today alleged that there were incidents of Sri Lankan women being harassed by some American diplomats at the US Embassy.

He said this while re-tweeting a tweet by US Ambassador Alaina Teplitz which was about empowered women powering economies.

She said she was happy to speak at the American Chamber of Commerce on women in the workplace.

Re-tweeting Ambassador Teplitz’s tweet, the ex-employee said “You can't school anyone on how to treat women in the workplace Ambassador Teplitz, when you've not stopped the harassment of Sri Lankan women by some American diplomats at the US Embassy.”

When the Embassy was contacted for a comment over the allegations of ‘harassment’, the Embassy Spokesperson said ‘sexual harassment’ in the workplace is against US law and is not tolerated.

“While we will not comment on internal matters, we would like to underscore that the Department of State is committed to providing a workplace that is free from sexual harassment. Sexual harassment in the workplace is against US law and is not tolerated. If the Department receives an allegation of sexual harassment, or has reason to believe sexual harassment is occurring, it takes the necessary steps to ensure that the matter is promptly investigated and addressed,” the Spokesperson said.

The former employee said the women were ‘harassed’ and we asked the embassy about alleged incidents of ‘harassment’ whereas the embassy's response was focused on ‘sexual harassment.' (Lahiru Pothmulla)

In Sri Lanka, all our elite schools are Christian oriented and they spread the message of the Whites as “Noble and Superior” and lot of us grow up believing this false notion. In actual fact the Whites have no morality nor empathy. Congratulations to Mr Rajaratnam for exposing what is happening to our women in the American Embassy.

For expatriates like me ,we are not at all surprised by this news about sexual harassment of Sri Lankan women by the Americans. This must be going on in all the Western Embassies in Colombo. Westerners are all dubious and hypocrites, we should raise this serious matter at the international level.

At the very least Sri Lankan Police, either CID or STF, should record statements from these American diplomats who have alleged to have harassed Sri Lankan women employees at their embassy. Just imagine what would have happened if our diplomats in a Western country had harassed Western women employees working in our embassy. Our political leaders are weak but we need a brave response from the IGP.

Preachers are not followers. We see how law enforcement treat tanned skin in US but tell other countries how they must do. So ..............

Not only this is occurring, the African Americans are regularly discriminated in the U.S. according to media news. The Americans needs to stop what is happening in their own back yard before criticizing other nations. In the U.S., the chance of living for a black man is far less than that of a white man when it comes to confronting their police.

Harassment is not limited to sexual harassment. Diplomatic missions do harass local staff. Staff members are often at the mercy incompetent manic administrators who violate contractual terms. Or merely display master like supremacy. Mental torture is harassment too.

Harassment comes in all forms. There is no such allegations of sexual harassment as it may deemed whenever there are women involved. This may be a technique of interrogation during an interview in order to identify the correct candidate, either for employment or obtaining visa. What's wrong with harsh interrogation ? .... NOTHING !! its a part of their job to scrutinize the applicants .... well done USESL.

Americans will never ever issue any travel visa for our local hero Rajaratnam for telling the world what the American diplomats get up to behind closed doors.

Normally, Sri Lankan employers and politicians sexually abuse their female employees but not American diplomats. Once again, Sri Lanka's media is spreading unchecked allegations.

See how the Sri Lankan Christians are coming immediately to the defence of their white masters who are accused of harassing Sri Lankan women. These Christians are the “ Modern Day Slaves “ of the West.

Ibn Yusuf Thursday, 27 June 2019 10:22 AM

Empowering women is the stepping stone to harassing women. All the nonsense of empowering women is to open the way for harassment of women. The UN and other NGOs espouse empowerment but everywhere there is abuse of women. Motherhood is abandoned or devalued at the expense of women's empowerment and children deprived of their rights to proper parental care
