“Employees worked to earn despite having symptoms”

The employees of Brandix Garment factory in Minuwangoda had worked extra hours to get their payments increased despite having symptoms such as fever, Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekara told Parliament yesterday.

“It has also been found that workers at the factory continued to work despite having fever. They have worked after taking paracetamol tablets to earn extra even without informing the management,” the Minister said in response to a question raised by Jathika Jana Balawegaya Mpanura Kumara

MP Dissanayake alleged that the company doctor had made them work saying they were fit enough despite suffering from fever and nausea. “around 70 Policemen and 20 officers from the Criminal Investigation

Department (CID) who were engaged in the investigation on the Brandix cluster have fallen sick with COVID -19,”Minister also said. “the investigation was handed over to the CID on November 5 and has been in progress since then,” he added. (YOHAN PERERA AND AJITH SIRIWARDANA)

Brandix handled the issue like some ramshackle tiny company working out of basement , their lower level managers failed to display professionalism.

Can not be trusted. This ex military type, not being affiliated to the medical profession, less than a day ago, contradicted what a medical professional like Dr. Sudarshinie said about COVID carriers to Brandix @ Minuwangoda. This appear to be another false statement just to be in the limelight.
