Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday urged the government not to politicize the distribution of essential goods to people.

"We have been told that efforts are being made to fulfil political aspirations when essential goods are distributed to people by the government. This should not be the case," Mr. Premadasa said in a statement.

He also urged the government to distribute essentials free of charge and to avoid scarcity of essential food items.

"We also urge the government to bring down equipment which is capable of diagnosing COVID-19 and to take special care in ensuring the safety of health care personnel," Mr. Premadasa added.

Meanwhile, a joint statement issued by the leaders of the SJB including Patali Champika Ranawaka, Rishad Bathiudeen, P Thigambaram, Mano Ganesan, Rajitha Senaratne, Rauff Hakeem and Kumara Welgama said the government should not spend funds illegally.

Also, they said in the joint statement that the government delayed taking action to prevent the spread of COVID-19 because of its effort to hold the general election as soon as possible. (Yohan Perera)

SJB and their cronies at it again. People will never fall for these failed politicians. Sajith people now know your record. Rajitha must be wanting to get his man to supply cheap tablets for corona. Sad he missed his chance.

Don't spread lies you moron. Best thing you can do is shut your stupid mouth and stay at home. You can't get any political gain over this.

Easter Silunday 2019 is not relevant to what is happening now. Listen to what SP has to say and let NO ONE play politics

Oh lord here they go. So many people are struggling to get essential supplies and this clown now opens his mouth. The only people who have been politicising this issue from the very beginning are these bankrupt UNP/SJB politicians by making such statements in the first place. They only see their political opportunism rather than the well being and safety of the nation (just as they did last Easter).

Guy's please discuss only the subject SP talking about. During the time of SP, he politicize the distribution of low-income houses to the public with government money. SP don't be nevus, you are one of the experts on this subject.
