Director General Health Services Dr Anil Jasinghe has made a statement urging shop owners to refrain from selling cigarette likening it to selling “death”.

Dr Jasinghe has reminded the shop owners to consider their social responsibility at this critical juncture as smokers are at a much greater risk during the epidemic as their ratio of getting infected  by the virus is far greater than that of non-smokers. He has also urged the smokers to quit smoking with immediate effect, to save their own lives.

Surely the President can stop people talking and giving their openion of the corona virus with the help of the Police but he is unable to make people not to smoke. Looks like cegaretts is more powerful.

Smokers this is a golden opportunity to quit smoking. I smoked for over 30 years. I stopped in just one day! I was challenged by a possible fatal disease so I made a deal with God. Accordingly I stopped 4 years ago never to smoke again. It is definitely possible if you make the resolve.

Why not ban sale of cigarettes for a period?
