Eastern Province Governor Anuradha Yahampath today decided not to accept unseparated garbage in the Eastern Province from March 1.
She said the decision was taken following a meeting held at the Eastern Provincial Council to make garbage disposal more formal.
The Governor instructed the Provincial Council's Ministry Secretary to inform the Heads of all Local Government Institutions in the Province on this.
Many health issues have arisen in the province due to the collection of unsorted garbage by the local government bodies and the frequenting of wild elephants has also increased due to non-proper disposal of garbage.
The Governor further added that a system should be prepared to make the public aware of these decisions before March 1. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Good initiative! We need to start somewhere. Need to discipline our society. Some of these people act as if plastic , fast food, disposable items were part of their lives for decades. (They only got to know about it a few years back)
