The DNA samples obtained from the mother and brother of the 30-year old woman from Kuruwita who was murdered and her headless corpse was stuffed in a bag and left at Dam Street, matched with the sample taken from the slain woman, the Government Analyst's report confirmed today.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the police had initiated an investigation after the decapitated body was recovered on March 1.
Although, it was disclosed that the murdered woman was a 30-year-old resident of Kuruwita, the investigators needed to confirm the identity of the body biologically.
In order to confirm the identity, the samples of the mother and the brother were taken by the experts and sent to the Government Analyst's Department along with the body tissues of the slain woman.
DIG Rohana said the autopsy on the remains would be conducted today since its identity has been confirmed.
The woman had been lodging with a Sub Inspector of Police who was attached to the Buttala Police station, at a guest house in Hanwella where she was brutally murdered.
The suspect had separated the severed head of the woman and stuffed the headless corpse into a suitcase, brought to Dam Street and abandoned it, as per the investigations.
The police media spokesman said the police are yet to find the head of the slain woman.

The use of the word "carcass" is incorrect and insensitive, remains or body would have been better. In the Oxford English Dictionary, the word is for a dead animal.

Is it ethical to use the word carcuss when referring to a human body? Just like cutting off a women head with meticulous precision?

As per the comments, please note that as Sirisena neglected his duties to protect the mother land. He should be investigated independently by the CID and take necessary actions against him. Specially Sirisena who took a money bag like Judas as bribe from the Terrorist.
