The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday recorded an eight hour statement from Kurunegala DIG Wasantha Kithsiri Jayalath over the alleged sterilization of women by Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Dr Shafi Shihabdeen of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
A spokesman for the CID said the statement was recorded from the controversial doctor over a newspaper report on him and the investigation the DIG had already conducted on the assets of the doctor.
The sources said that further statements would be recorded from the DIG if necessary. (Nimanthi Ranasinghe)

It is so sad that our country with such a rich heritage has sunk to the depths of the gutter. If the rule of law is strictly enforced equally devoid of political affiliations and race we could rise above this. To have a DI G resort to this third rate rabble rousing can be equated to terrorism. So apply that law to him too.

Who is being investigated, the doctor or the DIG?
