Amidst the brewing political crisis over presidential candidacy, the UNP leaders including Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Minister Sajith Premadasa had an urgent meeting yesterday to discuss the way out, the Daily Mirror learns.
The UNP is embroiled in a crisis with both Mr.Premadasa and Mr.Wickremesinghe lobbying for candidacy at the presidential elections. There was a major rally conducted in support of Mr. Premadasa in Badulla on Monday.
At yesterday’s meeting, the leaders discussed the formation of the National Democratic Front and its constitution. They decided to meet again on Saturday morning. The other participants at the meeting were ministers Mano Ganeshan, Palani Digambaram, Rauff Hakeem, Ravi Karunanayake and Kabir Hashim. (Kelum Bandara)

UNP is now divided and UNF is also in doldrums. Ranil will not give in and Sajith cannot overrule Ranil. Now Ranil or Sajith both will not beat Gota and SLPP was much advanced and planned well to have Gota appointed before UNP and the bus is gone
