A country-wide special operation has been initiated by the police from yesterday until January 5, 2021 to apprehend those who violate quarantine health regulations and traffic laws, police said.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said as per the statistics, the highest number of road accidents have been reported in the past from December 20 to January 5 each year.
He said that police officers in civvies are deployed to gather information on those who violate quarantine regulations especially on public transport facility
“A few days left for Christmas and to celebrate New Year 2021. So you should not be a victim of a road accident or being accused of causing one. From Sunday (20), we will deploy police officers in mufti on public transport facilities in order to prevent offences such as drunk driving, reckless driving and using mobile phones while on the wheels.
DIG Rohana said that police officers who are on board in civvies would also collect information about the persons who fail to wear face masks, respect the social distance concept and also about the drivers and conductors. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Now someone tell me WHAT went wrong with SL gov't efforts to curb COVID !!??? Why it worked well for New Zealand !! Yesterday's T20 game in Sedden Park, Hamilton NZ, there was 15,000 spectators at the ground!! HOW did NZ manage to be, COVID FREE !??? Incidentally DURING NZ lockdown health minister David Clark was demoted due to breaching lockdown rules and he eventually resigned due to his oversight !! Hmmmm!!
