Not wearing seat belt is a minor offence, but could be fatal in an accident situation. I had personal experience, because of seat belt my injuries were minor.

Good punishment would-be to use the driver instead of a crash test dummy! To judge the effects of not wearing a seatbelt when crashing @ 80 kmph.

Seems bit odd. Who knows if it was something similar to wrestling like fight by a police officer. Please check the cctv at that location.

Order Rs.25,000 to the policeman community service without pay for 2 weeks. Having to care for family etc. is irrelevant. Oh..where's that obsessive President?

Cop would have provoked the driver. If the cop was assaulted is doubtful and the CCTV systems at the exchange is likely to have a recording. CCTV is available at the payment points and if driver had the belt will be on that CCVT too.

In the western world you would not touch a cop no matter what the reason. It is called respect for the Law and for the enforcing Officer. It is as simple as that, no excuse of provocation etc. Respect you learn in School and at Home.

Cop got thrashed as he was the one who started the fight.

May be a guy from a Pradeshiya Sacha. They think that they are above the law.
