A Chinese national was arrested by the Kollupitiya Police last night in possession of 658 illegally imported bottles of alcohol from China, Police said.
They said the arrested Chinese national had imported the liquor bottles under the guise of importing them for a supermarket in the Alfred House Garden area. The bottles were found hidden in a container.
Police said the container with the imported consignment of alcohol was believed to have been brought to the location where the raid was conducted.
The police investigations disclosed that the liquor consignment was imported to be sold in the supermarket.
He was arrested for violating the regulations that limit the maximum number of bottles for a person to be kept in his possession without a valid permit.
The suspect is to be produced before the Fort Magistrate today. (CS)

VERY well done! No excuse for anyone. Now do gthe sdame with any from Western nations too who try to smuggle Liquor, and other pests which they could spread and try to destroy valuable farmers' crops in various parts of Sri Lanka. They merely need to say they are 'tourists' and visit these beautiful farms and all they need to do is to set free larvae of pests from a tiny vial which they will bring into Sri Lanka in their pockets or suitcase, which will develop rapidly into the pests like the 'Sena caterpillar' and other like pests to destroy the crops. So the Customs need to be extremely vigilant. MM
