Catholic schools and churches will reopen soon but be subjected to protection by the security forces, the Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said yesterday.
Cardinal Ranjith told a media conference that Catholic schools and churches would reopen when the tensed situation in the country returned to normalcy. However, he did not mention a specific date for the reopening of the said institutions.
“Catholic schools and churches were closed indefinitely following the information that they were targeted for attack. We all love children and it is unbearable if they are harmed. This is why we decided to close Catholic schools in particular. It is our duty to provide education to children. We will reopen the schools as soon as possible. The situation is the same with churches. They too will be reopened soon. We should see to it that the country returns to normalcy after the shocking Easter Sunday carnage,” he said. (Yohan Perera)

The cardinal should ask the govt to give able bodied catholics weapons so that they can defend themselves.
