Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith today said that Catholics cannot be satisfied with the ongoing investigation carried out by the government over the Easter Sunday bomb attack.
Addressing the media he said the five-member commission which was appointed by the former President Maithripala Sirisena to probe the Easter Sunday attacks is conducting the investigations in an effective manner but it was shown whether the defence services analyzing the incident properly. “We do not know whether the CID is analyzing the Easter attacks,” he said. We suspect that the released investigation reports only help to suppress the true details from the people, he said.
“The Easter Sunday attack incidents need to be investigated thoroughly and we want to know the truth of those who were behind the incident, funded it and those who inspired to do this kind of activities,” he said.
“We want to know all the facets of the Easter attack and those who did not perform their duties to protect these innocent people. We want to know those people, whether they are high up in the ranks or whether they are in the lower order and that does not matter to us,” Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said.
“As far as we have seen, we hear that some actions taking place. Certain people are being brought to courts, they had remanded again and again. The stories happening here and there is not enough for us. We want a thorough investigation from the first moment to the last all those who are involved in the attacks. We want to conduct investigations over all those who were involved in trying to hide the facts by trying to pass the incident to another person, “ the Cardinal said.
While we have lots of trust in the Presidential Commission which is doing this inquiry, it looks as if it is something done only from at a corner event, that is happening. But not getting a sufficient amount of attention. The Cardinal claimed that certain incidents had reported over several suspected persons who had arrived in the country and visited Catholic schools in Negombo for video recording. Also reported that those persons had visited the country only for 24-hours, he said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

I absolutely agree with The Cardinal. Many know that even this present GOSL is 'soft peddling' all these extremely important issues very sadly. As usual it could be a massive 'cover up' process to protect their so called' friends'. VERY sad indeed. The people are the losers yet again!. MM

Agree with the Cardinal. An open full investigation as to how and why these Islamic terror acts were allowed to take place in Sri Lanka. There was ample warning about this group of terrorists and why were they allowed to operate openly and no action taken before the attacks. It destroyed the good name of Sri Lanka worldwide, effected tourism negatively and the religious cohesion traditions for acceptability as a plural society was shattered. A full and open investigation is essential.

Dear Cardinal the truth will never come out because the people who are involved are alaiged to be of heigest political and security standing of the country. It will be probe after probe and commission after commission. If any honourest and truthful out come to take place a Mgistrate of the caliber of Mr. Ranga Dissanayake has to be appointed. Other wise it will go under the carpet.

There was ample time for security forces to suppress those attacks if only the higher authorities when informed took timely action . On the part of the security forces they should have taken appropriate action at the right time to nip it in the bud without waiting for orders from the top, who says he was clueless

The Bible says, Jesus forgave all His enemies who put Him to death on the Cross, and this cardinal who says he is a follower of Christ is demanding blood of his enemies. What a contrast!
Kapila Wednesday, 19 February 2020 04:22 PM
My dear Nimal, There is a big difference with demanding blood, as you put it, and demanding to know the entire truth - which is what the Cardinal wants. If a thief entered your home and stole your goods, killed your family and burned your home, you may be able to forgive, but wont you want to know every detail and know how he did all this without your knowledge, so you can protect others? Please dont be biased and consider the security of our nation.

Dear Cardinal, this is very much like how the church has handled allegations about child abuse. In a sense this is a bit like Karma. The show must go on.....
