The Wages Board today decided to increase the daily wage of plantation workers to Rs.1,000, The Ceylon Workers' Congress (CWC) Treasurer and Nuwara Eliya District MP Marudapandi Rameshwaran said.
He said the daily wage Rs.1,000 includes Rs. 900 and a budget allowance of Rs. 100 per day for plantation workers.
The decision was taken following a discussion held at the Labour Ministry under the patronage of the Commissioner General of Labour and with the participation of CEOs of plantation companies and plantation union representatives
MP Rameshwaran said, 11 votes were cast in favour of the proposal to pay the Rs.1,000 for the plantation worker.
As the proposal made by the Wages Board to pay a daily wage of Rs. 1, 000 to a plantation worker, it was passed by a majority vote.
Later, MP Rameshwaran said the decision should be published in a gazette notification accordingly.
