COVID-19 patients to be confined for two days at home prior to being taken to hospitals

COVID-19 infected patients have to be confined to their homes for at least two days prior to be taken to hospitals and treatment centres due to the insufficient space at hospitals and treatment centres, sources said.

According to the Public Health Inspectors Union, nearly 200 patients infected with COVID-19 in the Gampaha District had not been taken to hospitals by Wednesday (27) afternoon and therefore, had to remain in their homes. All patients, who were confined to their homes in the Gampaha district, were diagnosed with the virus after the 18th of this month. Public Health Inspectors Union Secretary said the available space at treatment centres had been exceeded resulting in their inability of admitting patients into the centres.

“Hence, the patients have to stay at home at least for two days and warned that such a situation could lead to the spread and exacerbation of the disease.” “This situation is obvious when average of 700 COVID patients are currently being reported on a daily basis,” he said. the Union Secretary said such patients would be taken into treatment centres on availability of space. There is no need to be taken to quarantine centre if you test positive. Talking through my personal experience overseas where I am home quarantining . I was feeling unwell lady week and went to a clinic and was tested positive. The lab tech who tested me walked up to me very professionally and told me I was Covid positive and not to worry. He took me aside and told me to wait outside the clinic and the doctor would advise. I stood outside for about 5 minutes and the doctor came and gathered details of my contacts etc. and then advised me to home quarantine for ten days. Today is day 7 and I am perfectly fine just with home remedies, steak inhalation, vit c and d, fruits and meals on time whilst monitoring the oxygen levels to ensure nothing untoward us happening internally. Happy to say that if you home quarantine and take precautions you do not need to go to the quarantine center. I suppose some people in Sri Lanka cannot home quarantine due to family size and accommodation used.
