People who die of COVID-19 would be allowed to be buried, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said today.

The Prime Minister said this in Parliament in response to a question raised by SJB MP S.M. Marikkar.

MP Marikkar said State Minister Sudarshani Fernandopulle, who responded to a question raised by MP Rohana Bandara, told Parliament yesterday that COVID-19 is not transmitted through water.

He asked the Prime Minister if the remains of those who die of COVID-19 would be allowed to bury at least now.

The Prime Minister responded and said “We will allow the bodies to be buried,” (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

So why wait so long for countless number of people to curse the entire Rajapakse clan and those aiding and abetting to now agree when you knew all along the truth .

    Thanks.

    ChanakaJ Wednesday, 10 February 2021 03:25 PM

Now that burials are allowed, why not follow the guidelines in UK or Europe to minimise any risk of contamination?

    Anthony Wednesday, 10 February 2021 03:46 PM

LOL ! At last woken from long Slumber.

    Samson Wednesday, 10 February 2021 03:49 PM

    Ram Wednesday, 10 February 2021 04:12 PM

Why he failed to listen for almost one year is a mystery. Is it arrogance of the Army Commander?

DR RIFAI SULAIMAN Wednesday, 10 February 2021 04:53 PM

A good and brave move .. timely needed to bring all our communities under one umbrella. No time Sri Lanka needs unity as of today . The country is facing many challenges and there must be unity among all communities to build this nation . We should not communalise politics; economy; education and health and safety issues. All communities should work hand in hand to build this country . This is a good move by PM to resolve this issue . Thanks.

Realising they cannot have their own way?

My Name Is Khan Wednesday, 10 February 2021 05:12 PM

In anticipation of Imran Khan addressing the Parliament PM has folded... Either way prudent outcome.

Finally some sense. Because of UNCHR rapport coming?

Premalal Perera Wednesday, 10 February 2021 05:33 PM

A sane decision at last. It looks like the arms of the government have to be twisted by the international community for them to come to their senses.

    Labby Wednesday, 10 February 2021 05:42 PM

So he trusted the word of his State Minister over the Scientists regarding the transmission of Covid-19. Didn't they know that Covid-19 is a respiratory decease? And by the way; Male' in the Maldives being such a tiny area of land; they bury those who die of Covid-19. Talk of being sensible..

Looking for some favors at UN human rights commission session

    Roisin Thursday, 11 February 2021 02:12 AM

Not because of Imran Khan, but because of UNHRC rapport. Mandatory cremation is a severe crime against human rights.

Jos Mo Thursday, 11 February 2021 06:17 AM

Guys, do you know the reason? Imran Khan bowled a beamer at Mahinda and he got his senses back after that knock to the head.

    Holman Thursday, 11 February 2021 07:01 AM

Welcome decision but this whole episode smells of death!
