The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched an investigation on those who have involved in corrupt activities at the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT), Transport State Minister Dilum Amunugama said.
Addressing an event in Kandy he said, appropriate action will be taken against the wrongdoers once the investigations are completed.
"This is not just about forging documents. Those who have made the entery in the Department's computer system had allegedly created forged documents that look like original," he said.
"Several officers have been permitted to enter the computer system. But the people who involved in illegal activities assume that they would not be detected. It will not happen. It is easy to detect them who enter the data in the system illegally," he said.
Details of several vehicles with fake registration documents have already been handed over to the CID, the State Minister said.
"So far details pertaining to 700 vehicles have been handed over to the CID.
Investigations are underway to gather information on other vehicles too," he said.
"Our motive is not to punish those who had fallen into this trap, but to those who have created these fake documents," the State Minister said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
