The Meeting of the Padukka Development Committee came to an abrupt halt due to a clash between the Committee Chairman Parliamentarian Jagath Kumara and the members of the committee.

The tense atmosphere compelled the chairman to suspend the meeting and leave.

Members of the Seethawaka Pradehiya Sabha accused the chairman of making arbitrary decisions without consulting the representatives of the committee and the officials. This resulted in heated arguments between the chairman and the members.

The chairman who suspended the meeting went into the Divisional Secretary’s room escorted by police.  Meanwhile, the rival group waiting for him on the road opposite the Divisional Secretariat and as he came out, they scorned him by hooting and hurling eggs at him.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Avissawella SLPP Electoral Organizer Ravindra Jayasinghe said the committee expected to implement the proposals at the village level, but the Chairman ignored them. He said the Chairman had passed several proposals at his own will with the support of his close confidantes without informing the officials or the other members. (Buddhika Kumarasiri )
