The coronavirus has begun to spread to multiple areas, including in the Western Province.
Health authorities said that the virus has spread to parts of Gothamipura in Rajagiriya.
On Sunday the Gothamipura housing scheme in Borella and 24 Watta and 78 Watta in Gothamipura were declared as isolated areas.
Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said that the virus has also spread to other parts of the country.
Dr. Samaraweera told reporters yesterday that while the spread of the virus has been contained in Colombo and the Western Province, new patients are being detected in some areas.
He said that this was expected with the coronavirus pandemic and how it is managed is what is important.
Dr. Samaraweera said the health authorities are confident the spread of the virus can be contained.
He said that infected persons will be identified and isolated to prevent its spread to other people.
The official also said that extensive PCR testing will continue to prevent the spread of the virus.
Dr. Samaraweera also said that with A long holiday coming up on Thursday, the public have been urged not to travel out of their hometown.
He said that if anyone is travelling out of their hometown then all the required precautions must be taken.(EASWARAN RUTNAM)
