Acting IGP C.D.Wickramaratne has informed the National Police Commission (NPC) that the arrest of former minister Patali Champika Ranawaka was done in a legal manner in accordance with procedures, the NPC said.
NPC Secretary Nishantha Weerasinghe said the acting IGP informed the NPC about the matter when it convened last Friday.
Mr.Weerasinghe said the NPC Chairman has asked for a report from the acting IGP over the matter based on a letter sent by Deputy Speaker that the arrest of former minister Ranawaka was not done in accordance with procedures.
Based on the report, the acting IGP has informed the NPC that the arrest of MP Ranawaka on December 18 by CCD was legal and done in accordance with procedures. (Indika Ramanayake)
